Taxi driver hijacked in Dalpark, vehicle linked to murder case

A taxi driver was abducted at gunpoint and held for a day after picking up a passenger in Dalpark. The hijacked Toyota Quantum has allegedly been connected to a Springs murder and hijacking case.

A taxi driver was hijacked at gunpoint in Dalpark on August 29 and held overnight in a shack. It is reported that the white Toyota Quantum in which the driver was travelling is linked to a Springs murder and hijacking case.

According to police information, a man stopped the driver along Elsburg Road at around 10:00 and claimed he was heading to Benoni. The driver allowed the man to board the taxi, and they continued driving.

While en route, the passenger received a phone call and was heard saying, “I’m coming.” The events that followed are not clear, but the driver noticed a black Toyota Avanza with three occupants.

The three men got out of the Avanza, all armed with firearms, and pointed the weapons at the driver. He was instructed to get into their vehicle.

One of the hijackers remained behind and drove off with the Quantum, while the other two forced the driver into the Avanza.

They drove around with him for several hours before stopping at an unknown location, where they held him inside a shack for the remainder of the day.

The hijackers also took his cellphone. The following day, his captors returned and transported the driver again. While on the road, they reportedly noticed police in the area, made a U-turn, and dropped the driver off at a petrol station in Tembisa.

The driver sought help and was taken to the Tembisa Police Station. He was then brought to Brakpan SAPS. Cases of hijacking and kidnapping are under investigation.
