Brakpan weekend crime round-up: Female motorist robbed at stop street in Sherwood Gardens

An overview of crimes reported to Brakpan police from October 3 to 5.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan SAPS over the past weekend:

Friday – Tools and other valuables were stolen from an address along Ellis Street in Sherwood Gardens. A Wendy house on the property was broken into.

• A female motorist was robbed of her cellphone during a smash-and-grab along Hospital Road in Sherwood Gardens.

The incident took place at around 09:30 while the victim was stationary at a stop street. A lone thief smashed the passenger side window of her vehicle and grabbed the device.

• Five armed men dressed in security uniforms and wearing balaclavas stormed a business premises along Lemmer Road in Vulcania at about 23:45.

A security guard conducting a routine patrol on the property was confronted by the robbers. Two of the men pointed guns at the guard and questioned him about how many personnel were on site.

The guard informed them that there were five staff members, including a woman. The robbers then forced the guard to the guard room, where he found his colleagues had already been rounded up.

All the guards were tied up using their own shoelaces. The robbers then searched them and took their cellphones.

The robbers then accessed a roller door leading to an office, where undisclosed items were taken. After the robbery, several gunshots were fired outside the premises.

Saturday – A man was assaulted and robbed at around 17:00 at the corner of Victoria Avenue and High Street. The victim was walking to the taxi rank when he was confronted by a man known to him.

The man pointed a gun at the victim and threatened to shoot him. He then started assaulting the victim. It is reported that a group of the man’s friends joined in on the attack. The victim was then searched and robbed of his cellphone and R1 800 in cash.

• A silver-coloured Toyota Corolla was stolen from an address along Stoffberg Avenue.

Sunday – A home in Nederberg Street, Sonneveld, was burgled of a TV.
