Brakpan boxers compete at junior and cadet nationals

Two local boxers formed part of the Gauteng team competing at nationals, while a local coach managed the team.

Brakpan boxers JP Visagie and Donewin Martens, together with coach Jaco Visagie, represented Gauteng at the South African National Boxing Organisation’s (SANBO) Junior and Cadet National Championships held from October 7 to 11.

Jaco was selected as the manager of the Gauteng team, which received the trophy for the best organised team. The Gauteng cadet team finished third overall.

JP competed in the junior championship in the 54-57kg division, reaching the semi-finals where he lost his bout, earning a bronze medal.

Donewin also competed in the 73-75kg weight division of the junior championship where he reached the semi-finals and earned a bronze medal.
