Urgent appeal: San Michele Home needs water donations after reservoir tank disaster
Drinking water is most needed at the San Michele Home after their reservoir tank burst over the weekend.
Over the past weekend, the main water tank at San Michele Home burst, leaving the facility in a severe water crisis.
The damage is significant, and while repair work has already started, San Michele has been informed that it will take some time to complete.
“Unfortunately, we do not yet have an estimated date for the restoration of our water supply,” said the home’s marketing consultant, Jenny van Graan.
“In the interim, we are in urgent need of clean drinking water to ensure the health and safety of our residents and staff. Additionally, we require water for cooking, hygiene, and cleaning purposes.
“We would also greatly appreciate donations of grey water that can be used for sanitation and general cleaning,” she continued.
If a company or organisation is able to assist, San Michele would be deeply grateful for any of the following:
• Bottled or bulk clean drinking water
• Grey water suitable for non-consumption use
• Loan or donation of water tanks (JoJo tanks) with a minimum capacity of 10 000 litres
Donations can be delivered directly to San Michele at 226 Hannes Visagie Road in Withok Estates, or at 25 Gloucester Street in Dalview.
On Sunday afternoon, Freedom Front Plus PR Councillor Riaan van Zyl went to San Michele along with Withok resident Riaan Marais, who has a borehole with water fit for consumption, to deliver roughly 2 000 litres of water to the home.
Van Zyl will return to deliver more water and is calling for residents to support the home as much as possible.

He told the Brakpan Herald that the water supply from Ekurhuleni, which had been interrupted, has returned, but it is not nearly enough to cover the home’s day-to-day consumption.
He also urged businesses or the public to contribute towards repairing the 450 000-litre reservoir that burst, so the home can maintain a reserve water supply in case of future shortages.
“Your support during this critical time would make an immense difference in ensuring that our residents continue to receive the care and dignity they deserve.
“We would be more than happy to arrange collection or delivery logistics, and we will gladly acknowledge your contribution publicly should you wish,” Van Graan concluded.
