Two hijackings reported in Dalpark within 24 hours

Local police are probing two hijackings reported along Airport Drive last week, including a case in which a victim was kidnapped and later released in Soweto.

Two motorists were robbed of their vehicles in separate hijacking incidents along Airport Drive in Dalpark last week.

According to police information, the first incident took place on January 27, when the driver of a white Renault Triber was robbed of his vehicle after agreeing to give a man a lift.

The exact number of hijackers involved has not been confirmed. It is reported that the victim was at a petrol station at about 15:30 when he was approached by a man, who requested a lift to a nearby area.

Upon reaching the destination, a man seated in the back of the vehicle pointed a firearm at the driver and instructed him to continue driving.

They then drove to a gravel road near a bridge, where a rope was used to strangle the victim. He was told to “sleep” while the attackers spoke on the phone.

It is unclear whether the victim was left at the scene or released elsewhere. The hijackers also stole the victim’s cellphone.

The second hijacking took place on January 28 at around 10:45. The driver of a white Kia was stationary at traffic lights along Airport Drive when he was confronted by an armed man.

The gunman climbed into the vehicle and instructed the victim to drive to a shopping complex in Boksburg.

On arrival, they were met by two additional men, who tied the victim’s hands and forced him into a Volkswagen Polo Vivo.

His face was covered, and he was driven to an unknown location. The hijackers also robbed the victim of money after forcing him to open his banking app.

The victim was later released in Soweto, where he sought help from community members. A kidnapping charge has been added in the second case. Both incidents are under investigation by Brakpan police.
