WATCH: Non-payment, PPE shortages inhibit Brakpan Roads and Stormwater Depot

City manager Kagiso Lerutla visited the Brakpan Roads and Stormwater Depot on March 9.

Ekurhuleni city manager Kagiso Lerutla visited the Brakpan Roads and Stormwater Depot on March 9, as part of the ongoing Fixing the Frontline programme.

During the engagement, officials raised several concerns, including non-payment of acting allowances for vacant posts, shortages of PPE and vehicles, structural damages at the depot, and clarity on advertised positions.

“Lerutla provided a reassuring response, committing to clear and achievable turnaround times to address these matters,” the city posted on its Facebook page.

“He also hinted at the introduction of performance-based monthly awards to recognise staff excellence and motivate teams; all aimed at strengthening service delivery across the city.”

In another post with an attached video, a general worker at the Brakpan Depot, Sandile Hlatshwayo, thanked Lerutla for the visit and for taking the time to engage directly with staff on the challenges they face.

“He promised to come back in two weeks to give us solutions for the issues we gave him,” Hlatshwayo said in the video.
