Brakpan weekend crime round-up: Thieves take aim at vehicles

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from July 10 to 12.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A lawnmower, various tools, a microwave and other valuables were stolen during a break-in at a storeroom at a residential property along Boundary Road.

Saturday – A grey Toyota (undisclosed model) parked at the corner of Lark Street and Prince George Avenue was broken into.

One of the vehicle’s windows was broken, and the dashboard was stripped.

  • A grey Toyota Etios was stolen from the corner of Kingsway Avenue and Forest Street. The vehicle was later recovered.
  • A white Nissan (undisclosed model) was stolen from Voortrekker Road.

Sunday – An attempt was made to steal a white Ford Ranger from an address along Hamilton Avenue.

The driver of the vehicle, which is company owned, spotted a man near the bakkie, who fled when he realised he had been seen.

The would-be thief made his getaway in a blue Hyundai i20. The Ranger’s ignition system had been tampered with and damaged.
