Weekend crime round-up
An overview of crimes reported to Brakpan police from August 5 to 7.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:
Friday – A taxi commuter was robbed by the occupants of a white Toyota Quantum along Crocodile Street in Sallies Village at 06:00.
After boarding the taxi, the victim was overpowered by three men who held him down and searched him. He was robbed of R1 500 and his cellphone and dropped off in Minnebron.
• A motorist was robbed by two men in the parking lot of a supermarket along 12th Road in Withok Estates. The victim was sitting in the vehicle at 16:30 when he was attacked by the pair. They assaulted him and ran off with his cellphone and R1 000 cash.
• Cash and a cellphone were stolen during a robbery at a Voortrekker Road liquor store. Three robbers entered the store at 18:45 and threatened employees at gunpoint. They took money from the till and demanded cash from the safe on the premises.
• A man was robbed after withdrawing money at a petrol station along Voortrekker Road at 19:20. The victim was returning to his car when he was approached by a man who asked for a cigarette.
The man then pointed a knife at the victim and threatened to stab him. He took a cellphone and R3 000 from the victim’s pocket. The robber and two accomplices then fled the scene on foot.
Saturday – A home in West Road, Witpoortjie, was burgled of two TVs, a kettle and a microwave.
Sunday – A handbag was stolen during a smash-and-grab at the Station and Voortrekker roads intersection at 12:30. The victims, a man and his wife, were waiting at the traffic lights when they saw two men cross the road.
One of the men smashed the car’s windscreen while the other reached into the car through the open passenger window and grabbed the bag.
The thieves then ran off towards the train station. The bag contained perfume and other valuables.
