Weekend crime round-up
An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from November 10 to 12.
The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:
Friday – A TV, a bar fridge, solar lights and other valuables were stolen from an address in Hayes Street, Brakpan North.
• A Gladstone Avenue residence was burgled of tools, a bicycle, a gas bottle and a dustbin.
• A case of hijacking is under investigation after a food delivery driver was robbed of his scooter in Brenthurst.
After collecting the food at 20:45, the victim was en route to make the delivery when he noticed he was being followed in Dalview by the occupants of a red Toyota.
He called the customer and told him he suspected he was being followed. He requested the customer open the gate when he arrives at the home.
As he approached the address along Austin Street, he saw the customer flashing a torch to signal he was opening the gate.
The red Toyota pulled in front of the victim’s scooter and three men got out of the car. The victim got off the scooter and fled. He heard gunshots as he ran away.
By chance, he encountered a colleague in Van der Merwe Street who gave him a lift to the police station.
The victim’s cellphone was also stolen with the scooter.
Saturday – A home in Hope Avenue was burgled of a TV.
• An 11.5kg gas bottle was stolen from a residence along Taft Avenue. The cage in which the bottle was stored was broken open.
• A generator, secured to a lapa pole on a property in Germains Avenue, was stolen.
• A white Big Boy motorcycle was stolen from an address along Gladstone Avenue. The motorbike was parked in a locked garage, which was broken into.
Sunday – Cash, a laptop and jewellery were stolen during a break-in at a home along Hendrik Potgieter Street in Dalview.
• Solar panels were stolen from the roof of a Hoy Avenue business.
• A gate motor was stolen from a home in Talbot Street, Brakpan North.
