Prayer event to bring law-enforcement together with community
The SAPS prayer event was held at the NG Moedergemeente in Brakpan Central.
Brakpan SAPS held a prayer event on December 19 at the NG Moedergemeente on Victoria Avenue in Brakpan central.
The event was intended to bring together law enforcement agencies, local businesses, faith-based organisations, and the Brakpan community at large to collectively pray for a crime-free and peaceful new year.
The theme was “Divine Intervention,” and SAPS Brakpan Warrant Officer Ps Eddie Botes opened the ceremony with a prayer.
Sector 1 manager and corporate communications officer, Const Audrey Buthelezi, welcomed everyone in attendance and explained the purpose of the event.
“Many have gathered but will as one humble themselves in prayer to request God’s divine intervention in 2026,” she said.
She further requested that everyone not pray only for themselves, but also for their communities, law enforcement agencies, and the South African Government.
In attendance were representatives from EMPD chaplaincy and social crime prevention unit led by Chaplain Buyi Mogola, Boksburg Correctional Services led by Chaplain Mabinyane, SAPS Brakpan Vispol support head Lieutenant Colonel Pearl van Staad, Chaplain Godfrey Booysens, Ps Eddie, and other SAPS members.
Afriforum, CPF, the local NPO Village of Hope, faith-based organisations within the precinct, and community members from Dawn Park and Brakpan were also present.
Chaplain Mabinyane read scripture of God’s promise to Solomon, stating that if His people humble themselves and pray, seek His face, and turn from evil ways, He will hear them, forgive their sins, and heal their land.
Drummond Doig from Afriforum Brakpan gave a speech on ethics and how people struggle with morals.
After the speakers, which also included Rev Jimmy Moyambo from the Tabernacle of Worship Church, Buthelezi led the crowd in a ritual in which each attendee wrote down one thing they were asking God not to allow to cross over into 2026.
The notes were then burned inside a tray outside the church hall as a symbol of handing the prayers over to God.
CPF deputy chairperson, Simon Mabuse, thanked the stakeholders on behalf of Brakpan SAPS Station Commander, Brig Johanna Ngoma. He applauded SAPS Brakpan for organising such an event, which he said was precisely what the precinct needed.
