Eye on the metro: Ekurhuleni couldn’t be bothered about water problem

"Highly upset and frustrated resident," from Dalview writes: We have very low water pressure and at times,no water supply at all in Reitz Street, Dalview.

This has been going on for weeks now and is getting worse by the day!

We have made endless call logs and phone calls to the water and sanitation department, as well as to the call centre, and still nothing been done.

The only comment I received was: “Don’t know the problem,” before they got into their vehicle and drove off!

It is a battle — we cannot use washing machines, top up the swimming pool, use dishwashers, not even shower, not to mention the time it takes just to get some water in the bath, because of the low pressure, and at times no water at all.

My children recently had to clean up in the swimming pool!

I measured the water pressure, at the best of times it is two bars maximum.

If you open one tap, the pressure drops to 0.2 bar.

You cannot open the hot water tap and cold water tap at same time.

There is not enough pressure and the hot water system pulls in air when you open a tap.

Then there’s a huge battle again to bleed the system.

Why pay for a service that is not working?

The feeling that I get is that Ekurhuleni couldn’t be bothered.

Isn’t water supposed to be a priority item?
