Police flats are an eyesore

"Concerned Brakpan resident'' writes by email: I was taking a walk in December, along Station Road and down Taft Street, and I cannot believe what I saw at the police station flats.

The surroundings were overgrown with grass, there was litter everywhere and water was running down the road.

Maybe I expected, because it is our police department, that it would be clean and an example to us.

Obviously I was mistaken.

Surely there are children staying in those flats?

Is it not a health risk and do you really allow your children to play in such an area?

Just asking.

Editor’s note: Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan police station commander, commented as follows:

“The flats are currently under renovation and as soon as the rubble has been removed, the surrounding area will be cleaned,” he said.

“The water running down the street was the result of an overflowing geyser, which has since been attended to and fixed.”
