Illegal dumping irks church

Pastor Hannes le Roux from Emmanuel Ministries writes:

We are experiencing a big problem with people dumping their refuse and all kinds of rubbish in the open field opposite our church building on Hamilton Avenue.

This rubbish is a big health risk to the community – nappies, medicine and all kinds of filth and rubbish are dumped.

To prevent a health hazard, Emmanuel Ministries decided to clean up the area with hired help (which cost quite a bit).

What is most sad about this situation is that it is the residents of the area who are responsible for the illegal dumping (we discovered packaging for prescribed medication with a name on it).

I cannot believe that people can act this way without considering the church.

Is this what our people have become?

We request the local community to not dump their rubbish in this area, but to make use of the facilities provided by the Ekurhuleni Metro.
