Shelley triumphs on the track

Anthony Shelley (17) achieved his first major victory this past weekend at Zwartkops Raceway.

The young Brakpan rider took part in the 10th National 600 Super Sport Race.

In the last three national races that the Grade 10 pupil from Volkskool Brakpan participated in, he placed sixth, fifth, fourth, third, second and first in that order.

His 2013 season started off at Kyalami, where he began brightly, leading the race until a big crash resulted in a broken arm.

This injury forced the Sonneveld resident to sit out of four national races in order to recover.

Shelley is now fighting back for points, and is back in sixth place with a possibility of making up two more places in the national category in the final stages of the season.

His next race in the national category will take place on October 5, at Killarney Raceway in Cape Town.

The Zwartkops national race will be screened on DStv channel 208, at 8pm, on Friday, September 6.

Shelley currently leads the northern regional championship category by 50 points, with three race meetings left and his next regional meeting is on September 8, at Kyalami.
