Bad second half for Dalpark FC
After finishing sixth in the First Division of the Benoni South Football Association (BSFA) in their first season, earlier this year, Dalpark Football Club were hoping to get the new campaign off to a good start.
The BSFA First Division kicked off on Saturday, October 5, in Actonville, Benoni, and Dalpark FC met Chelsea in their opening fixture.
The club, based in Dalpark Extension Six, draws players from Dalpark, as well as the surrounding areas of Wattville, Tsakane, Dudusa and Leachville.
Coach Ebrahim Fray, who was behind the formation of the club, was hoping that his players would get off to the best possible start but his hopes were dashed after a poor second half showing by his team.
The Brakpan side started the game off brightly and had a few decent opportunities to put the ball into the opposition’s net but these chances were squandered.
The first stanza ended goalless.
In the second half Chelsea found their goal scoring boots and put four goals past the hapless Dalpark goalkeeper.
According to Fray, the second half performance was poor and the wheels came off for his defence.
“We had our chances in the game but just couldn’t put them away,” he said.
He blamed the defeat on poor decision-making and lapses in communication between his defensive line and his goalkeeper.
The coach said that, following this early defeat there is still time for his team to regroup and focus on the areas where they slipped up.
He added that he is also looking to beef up the team in certain areas and is looking at introducing a few more new players as the season progresses.
“Our striker was left alone up front at times so I am looking to bring in some support in that area,” he explained.
Fray will also conduct trials again, to find the right combinations.
The team will have a bye this weekend and will be back in action on Saturday, October 19, against Gibs United, and again, on Sunday, October 20, against SCB Independiente, at Actonville Stadium.
