Big year for Brakpan rugby

With Brakpan Rugby Club’s first team securing qualification to the 2014 Cell C Community Cup, last year, the club will, for the first time since 1975, field two first teams.

The club have revived the “Lilywhites” team that last played in the early ’70s, to participate in the ASSUPOL League that gets underway on March 1, while the Community Cup team will get their tournament underway on March 8.

The Lilywhites will be coached by Nico Heyns and will play four games in the ASSUPOL League (twice at home and twice away).

The team’s fixtures in the league will start off against Boksburg on March 1 (away), followed by TUT on March 8 (home), NWU-Puk (home) on March 15 and NWU-Vaal (away) on March 22.

All the club’s teams started training on Tuesday, January 7, and players who would like to join the club are urged to do so as soon as possible, particularly u-19 and u-21 players.

Brakpan Rugby Club will also hold their annual general meeting at 7pm on January 29, in the clubhouse at Bosman Stadium.
