Chappies flies the flag
South Africa hosts the 2014 African Nations Football Championship between January 11 and February 1, and former Brakpan Nomads Football Club member Ryan Chappies Chapman will be one of the players at Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund's disposal.
The Bidvest Wits player told the Herald in September, last year, that he had his sights set on a return to the national football team set-up after making his debut for his country against Equatorial Guinea, in January, 2012.
The national team will launch their campaign in Group A, against neighbours Mozambique, in Cape Town, on Saturday, January 11, and Chapman will be keen to impress the national coach.
Bafana Bafana will then play Mali on Wednesday, January 15, followed by Nigeria on Sunday, January 19, at the Cape Town Stadium.
Speaking of his selection for the national team, Chapman said that it came as a bit of a surprise, as his form for Wits has been okay, but not scintillating.
“I am hoping to get a run at the tournament and am just glad that I am in the Bafana camp,” he said.
“To get the opportunity to be involved and to play for my country is something special.”
