Locals conquer the Comrades
Road warriors from local running clubs braved the daunting Comrades Marathon on Sunday, June 1.

This year’s ultra-marathon was a down run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, with participants covering 89.28km to reach the finish and earn medals.
Carnival City Runners had 19 of their original 26 starters finish the famous race, with Petros Mbokazi and Lerato Motaung earning the only silver medals for the club for finishing below the eight-hour mark.
Bill Rowan medals (for finishing under nine hours) were earned by Lucky Seopela, Sipho Dumakude, Tseko Joseph Tsotetsi and Nzima Zikhali.
Catherine Mokoena was the last finisher for the club and just managed to beat the 12-hour cut-off with 19 seconds to spare.
