Birds fly two Richmond races

Birds fly 750km.

Week 14 of the Brakpan Pigeon Club’s season saw the club’s birds fly two races from Richmond, 750km away.

The first race on Saturday, September 6, saw the birds liberated at 6.45pm.

The first bird home belonged to CX Hokke (Frik Smith and Hennie Pienaar) and was clocked in at 2.45.38pm, with a speed of 1486.856mpm, while Hennie Botha claimed second place when his bird was timed at 2.50.58pm, at a speed of 1 480.452mpm.

Piet Grobler took third when his bird clocked in at 2.59.41pm, with a velocity of 1 453.434mpm.

The birds in the second race were liberated at 7.30am and Hennie Botha’s birds claimed the top three spots.

The first of the three was timed at 3.31.48pm (1 493.254mpm), the second at 3.41.58pm (1462.392mpm) and the third at 3.45.40pm, at a speed of 1 451.48mpm.

Botha also placed fifth, seventh and ninth.

Mark Viljoen claimed fourth place.

The club’s birds will again fly from Richmond this weekend.
