Cyclists conquer the 2015 Carnival City Macsteel National Classic

The 31st edition of the Carnival City Macsteel National Cycle Classic took place from Carnival City on Sunday, February 22.

This year’s event, organised by Germiston Wheelers with the assistance of Germiston Rotary Club and Rotary Anns, focused on improved safety for the riders and, despite a few crashes along the route, a successful race was held.

Weather conditions on the morning were ideal for cycling, but by 8am the wind picked up.

The route follows a figure of 8, so riders were guaranteed of a headwind, cross winds from both directions as well as a favourable tail wind.

It was JC Nel of Team Bonitas who was the overall winner of the 165km men’s elite race while Kim Le Court of Bestmed who won the women’s elite race.
