Victory in Vereeniging

It’s starting to look extremely likely that Brakpan Rugby Club could go the full league campaign undefeated.

This comes after they emerged victorious against their toughest challengers to date, Vereeniging Rugby Club, with a score line of 34-21.

The ‘Panne” team has been totally dominant over their opponents this season, but on Saturday, in the Vaal Triangle, they were made to work hard to take a winning, bonus-point result back to Bosman Stadium.

The bonus-point was secured for Brakpan after they dotted down on four occasions.

It was the ninth time that Brakpan picked up a bonus point this Valke Peregrine League campaign.

Leon “Sweef” Potgieter again found his name on the try-scorers’ sheet, as did Thinus Ueckermann.

Tobie Strydom and Shaun Rheeder also scored five-pointers on the day.

“The game was, as expected, a tough one for us and for the first time this year Brakpan was really tested with the first half score only 16-15,” said club chairman Harry Nieuwenhuis.

“However, in the second half of the game we came together and managed to win.

“We needed a game like this and it will certainly assist us in preparing for the play-offs.

The team will be on the road again this Saturday when they play Klerksdorp away from home.
