Lebanon crushes South Africa at Bosman

A 2017 Rugby League World Cup qualifying first leg match-up took place at Bosman Stadium on Sunday, October 25.

The South African Rhinos encountered a strong Lebanon Cedars team in Brakpan and are now on the back foot going into the second match, at the same venue, on Saturday, October 31, following a 40-12 Lebanese demolition job, on Sunday.

The Cedars, who are seemingly on track to qualify for the Rugby League World Cup, ran in seven tries at Bosman, three of which were dotted down by their wise-old winger Travis Robinson, while half back James Boustani slotted six goals.

South Africa went over the whitewash on only three occasions in the match, including a 56th minute try by former Laerskool Môrewag pupil Jason King.

South Africa’s opponents were well structured in defence and dominated well.

Rhinos coach Brian Greige admitted that his team made too many errors in key areas on the day, including 41 missed tackles that cost the South Africans dearly.

The team will need a gargantuan effort when they meet again in Brakpan, this weekend, if they are to turn it around.

The match will kick-off at 3pm and spectators are encouraged to come and support the Rhinos.
