Incredible fight card at Carnival City
Buys became the organisation’s youngest title winner at EFC 54, at Sun City, and is aiming to dethrone the man known as “Zulu Boy”, in Brakpan.
The first EFC event of the year, EFC 57, will be taking place at Carnival City on Saturday, March 4.
EFC 57 will see the undefeated featherweight champion, Igeu “Smiley” Kabesa, defend against his former teammate and the former featherweight champion, Boyd Allen.
The DRC native is undefeated in professional competition and recently made his first title defence with a first-round submission victory.
Now he faces his biggest challenge, against former teammate and former champion, Boyd Allen.
Having moved from FFM to Fight Sports Centre, in Norwood, Kabesa has continued to be victorious. He has been unparalleled with his wrestling acumen inside the hexagon and with every appearance fans have seen constant improvements in his striking and dynamic movement.
Allen, however, is unmatched on his feet and is able to create and strike from near unimaginable angles.
Formerly undefeated in EFC, Allen suffered his first and only loss in the hexagon to Scotsman Danny Henry in a valiant war of a title fight.
He has since rebounded, winning two epic fights – one against Leon Mynhardt and the second against the outspoken contender Azi Thomas.
Now he is in line to reclaim the top spot.
The two former teammates have had mutual opponents, but the most significant difference between them was the outcome between their encounters with Danny Henry.
Where Allen stumbled against the Scotsman, Kabesa controlled the fight to claim his featherweight crown.
This mega title fight between two of the organisation’s most talented fighters takes place as the headlining main event at EFC 57, the first EFC event of 2017, and promises to kick off the year in emphatic fashion.
Meanwhile, former Brakpan Wrestling Club star, resident and interim flyweight champion JP Buys will square up in the hexagon, in the co-main event, against the reigning flyweight champion, Nkazimulo Zulu, in a title unification bout.
The two champions will both be hungry for victory.
Buys became the organisation’s youngest title winner at EFC 54, at Sun City, and is aiming to dethrone the man known as “Zulu Boy”, in Brakpan.
The 20-year-old Buys, in preparation for this bout, has flown out to Sacramento, California, to train at the revered Team Alpha Male gym.
