‘Panne’ pay homage to season’s star players
Brakpan Rugby Club held their year-end function on Saturday
“We are immensely proud of up-and-coming young u-21 player Martin Steyn who was the top point scorer in the whole of the Valke Rugby Union this year – senior players included,” said club chairperson Harry Nieuwenhuis.
“We believe this player has the talent to go all the way to the top.
“Along with him, our elderly statesman, Theo Becker took most of the honours.”
Senior award winners are:
• Senior Sportsman of the Year: Theo Becker.
• Players’ Player of the Year: Theo Becker.
• Most Loyal Player of the Year: Theo Becker.
• Junior Sportsman of the Year: Martin Steyn.
• Most Points Scored for the Year: Martin Steyn (122 points, 14 tries).
• Backline Player of the Year: Martin Steyn.
• Best Forward: Arra Jordaan.
• Best Loose Forward: Pieter Nel.
• Most Improved Player: Tabu Thau.
• U-21 Player of the Year: Jonathan Harding.
• Gees (‘Stoutgat’) Trophy: Raymond Herron.
“Pre-season training has started and we again invite all our players to join the club on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings,” added the chairperson.
“We are also delighted with the return of Ian Oosthuisen, the 2016 Gold Cup Player of the Year, to our club for the 2018 season.”
