No racing at The Rock until 2021
Drifting is unlikely to take place at the Rock Raceway this year.
Tim Stevens, owner of the Rock Raceway, has made peace with the idea that there will be no racing on the track for the rest of the year.
The popular race track stopped holding events almost a month before the lockdown was announced by the national government as they had to be careful of the number of people at the venue.
Stevens, however, feels he is fortunate that his employees still have an income.
“I’m quite fortunate that I’m financially stable and I can still pay the staff,” he said.
“I’m also lucky that I own the place and don’t have to worry about rent.
“The lockdown has, however, been hard on the sport.
“I’ve lost about 30 shows this year,” Stevens said.

The racetrack owner stated he is trying to communicate with the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture but nothing has come to light yet.
“We are not getting anywhere,” he said.
Some people might argue that social distancing can be practised while competing in motorsport but if it was to be given the green light, the races would have to take place behind closed doors.
“The spectators provide the funding to pay for all the events and without them, we would struggle,” said Stevens.
“At the moment I sit quietly and wait. I don’t think there will be racing this year. I’m not being negative but I’m realistic.”
With legal racing not allowed Stevens has another concern.
“What worries me is the illegal racers. With people not allowed on the track, there are more illegal racers out there and I’m worried about people’s safety,” he said.
Stevens also said the famous local track is being well maintained despite the lockdown.
“I have to keep up the maintenance work because if I leave until the last minute then it will be more expensive,” he said.
The businessman also had a message for all fans of motorsport.
“I hope everyone is safe and coping. This situation has been difficult for everybody and we need to stay strong,” he added.
