Local teen activist Brianna Mupaya, known for her children’s book Brakpan Broom and clean-up operations in Brakpan, recently joined the Brakpan Boxing Club.

She won her first tournament match at a recent breast cancer awareness tournament in Alberton by referee stoppage (RSC).

“Winning my first amateur boxing fight for breast cancer was a moment I will never forget. But for me, stepping into the ring was about much more than winning,” she said.

“I appreciate my club for creating a space and an opportunity for young people to discover what they are capable of with passion, dedication and heart.

“What I loved most was the respect that remained between my opponent and me after the fight. It reminded me that we can have differences, compete against one another and fight hard, but the spirit of the game and who we are as people can still unite us.

“This fight taught me that courage is not about never being afraid or never falling. Sometimes courage is simply choosing to keep moving forward when you can’t see what is ahead.”
