Brakpan powerlifter bags SA record at African championships

Known locally for slap-fighting, Vorster is also a top powerlifter in arm curl lifting.

Brakpan resident Pieter Vorster competed at the South African Strict Arm Curl and Freestanding Curl Federation’s Africa championship in the Master 4 class, for ages 55 to 59 and 140+kg powerlifters.

He competed in Durban on September 25, winning in both divisions by lifting 45kg in strict arm curl, and 90kg in freestanding curl, beating the SA record in his division.

The competition hosted lifters from Nigeria, Namibia, Libya, Ghana, Congo, Zimbabwe and more, proving that he is a name to be remembered in the sport.

Vorster is incredibly grateful to the sponsors that helped him get to Durban to compete, and will continue to give his all in the sport to prove that age is no barrier when your heart is in it.
