Residents should get ready to dig into their pockets to accommodate the following tariff increases:

• 5 per cent increase in assessment rates.
• An average of 12. 2 per cent for electricity.
• 5 per cent for water.
• 5 per cent for sanitation.
• 8 per cent for refuse removal.

There will be no tariff increases for cemeteries, libraries and recreational halls and the hiring and use of sports and recreational facilities.

The metro claims that Ekurhuleni remains the most affordable metro in the country to live in and that the average household bill has only increased by R209 since 2011.
