Siyanda brings comical vernac entertainment to Carnival City
He did not find his perfect match and decided to take his predicaments to the stage.
He is hilarious, insightful, creative and has chosen Carnival City’s Big Top Arena for his first-ever Gauteng show.
Siyanda Maphumulo, who hails from Mandeni in KwaZulu-Natal, is ready to unleash his latest standup comedy show, Single Partner, on his local fans.
Siyanda’s passion for comedy was born when his friends encouraged him to take his storytelling skills seriously and start making money from it.
In 2009 while studying, he decided to give it a try and auditioned for a competition outside the campus library and won.
“I won as the funniest raw talent on campus because I was the only person to audition. No other aspiring comedians entered,” he laughs.
This is when Siyanda fell in love with comedy and started performing comedy club gigs and nurturing the craft, obtaining much wisdom and skill from comedians such as Felix Hlophe and Simphiwe Shembe.
He also learnt from many other comedians as he progressed from stage to stage with him as one of the so-called “many more” on advertising posters.
Siyanda’s overnight fame unfolded when he got tired of being alone and took his single life as a bachelor to TV, appearing on the very popular Date My Family show.

“Sengikhathele ukuba single ngedwa, ngifuna umuntu esizoba muntu monye naye”, he said, which when loosely translated means,” I want someone I can spend my life with so that we can be single together.”
He did not find his perfect match and decided to take his predicaments to the stage.
This is where the name for his Gauteng show, Single Partner, originated.
In the show, he tells the reasons why he didn’t choose any of the ladies that were shortlisted for him on the show.
It has always been Siyanda’s dream to stretch his wings and perform in other African countries such as Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Botswana.
Venturing to Gauteng is his first step out of KwaZulu-Natal.
“We are thrilled to be Siyanda’s first ever Gauteng venue and know that our guests will thoroughly enjoy this absolutely versatile, assertive vernac comedian,” said Michelle Smith, marketing manager of Carnival City.
Siyanda will perform in the Big Top Arena tomorrow (Saturday).
Doors open at 6pm and the two hour show starts at 8pm.
