Top artists like Cassper Nyovest and Nasty C headline festival celebrating youth, culture and creative expression
There will be several workshops taking place where local artists are invited to participate in preparation for a music festival called “Resistance Festival Music”, which will be held on 11 April in Johannesburg.
The initiatives include a dance workshop on April 4, where dancers in various genres such as hip hop, breakdancing, pantsula and amapiano are welcome. There will also be a DJ masterclass on April 6 by Resistance Festival, offering DJs a special opportunity to sharpen their craft, grow their profile and gain insight from industry voices shaping the culture.
DJs who play amapiano, hip hop, deep house, afrotech, alternative or zonke bonke are encouraged to attend. They will be joined by DJ Kenzhero, Ms Cosmo, DJ Vardz and Tha Muzik for powerful conversations and practical insight to help upcoming DJs navigate the industry and expand towards international opportunities.
The Resistance Festival Music Masterclass will take place on April 7, offering creatives the chance to learn, connect and sharpen their edge with leading industry voices including Thasman, Amu, Neil T, Mr Selwyn, Lerato Matsoso (CAPASSO), Manaileng Maphike (Women in Music) and Tumi Mogapi (Women in Music). The masterclass will be held at the SA Hip Hop Museum in Newtown and is designed to help creatives stand out, grow their knowledge and move forward with purpose in the music industry. Lunch, stipends and Resistance Festival tickets will be included.
A fashion workshop will take place on April 8, where all streetwear creatives, fashion thinkers and future brand builders are invited. Those who want to understand how to turn a streetwear idea into a real business will be given the blueprint to do so.
A graffiti workshop will also be held, featuring panellists such as Jakes Mbele, Mr Ekse Dice and LinkOne.
These workshops form part of the journey towards the Resistance Festival on April 11 at Constitutional Hill, where young people will gather to celebrate youth, creativity and the voices that continue to shape culture.
The festival will celebrate freedom of expression through music, culture and unapologetic energy, with a strong line-up featuring Cassper Nyovest, Nasty C, Big Zulu, Emtee, Blxckie, YoungstaCPT, Zakwe, Reason and more.
According to the organisers, the festival is not just a show, but a movement. It invites those who believe in music, identity, culture and the right to express themselves freely.
Tickets are now available via Webtickets and Pick n Pay.
