Swimming club rewards their stars

Members of the Carletonville Swimming Club who excelled in the past season were rewarded for their hard work during the club’s annual prize-giving this week. The event took place at Klipdrift Dam on Sunday.

Kahlell Taylor was awarded the trophy for being the club’s best swimmer of the year overall. He also received a gold trophy for being the best open water swimmer in the 14 to 30 age category, the best boy’s swimmer in the same category, the most improved boy’s swimmer and got another trophy for the best boys 1.6 km swim of the season.
Annalise Freese was the club’s best female swimmer of the year overall. She also received a gold trophy for being the best open water swimmer in the age category of 31 years and above, the trophy for the best women’s swimmer of 31 years or older, the best time of a woman or girl three-km swim and for the best time of a woman or girl 1.6 km swim. Aaliya Mabanga walked off with the gold trophy for the 14 to 30 age category open water swim and trophies for the best girls 14 to 30-year-old swimmer for the year and the girl with the most courage and determination. Kgahliso Rapeane received the silver trophy for the age category 14–30 for open water swim and the trophy for the most improved boy. Dustin Pienaar received a gold trophy for the boys under 13 for open water swim and trophies for the best boys under 13 swimmer of the year and the boy with the most courage and determination. Carla Louw got a gold trophy for open water swim, a trophy for the best swimmer in her age category and a trophy for the best three-km swim. Louw also received the trophy for being the best men’s swimmer of 31 years and older. Tristan Steyn received a silver trophy for the boys under 13 open water swim and the “People’s Choice” boys’ trophy. Other prize winners were Corli Strydom, who received the silver trophy for the 14 to 30 year age category for open water swim and the “People’s Choice” girls’ trophy. Minke Rheeder was awarded the trophy for being an outstanding girls’ swimmer due to the four gold medals she achieved at a gala in which swimmers from 33 clubs participated.
Norman Napi got the bronze trophy for the 14 to 30 age category for open water swim, while Olerato Maphangela got the bronze trophy for the 14 to 30 age category for open water swim.
Annalisa Freese and Carla Louw will end the season by swimming a three-km swim at Olifantsfontein on Sunday, 3 April “We thank our coach, Oom Gerrie Grove, for all his love and care throughout the season and for pushing and believing in us never to give up.
“Oom Gerrie and Tannie Nellie, you are exceptional and so loved. We are looking forward to the next season that will start on 1 September,” says Annalisa Freese.
