Plot thickens around man’s death

Although the police have still not identified a man found dead in an open veld in Carletonville, they have made another unexpected discovery regarding the case.

The badly decomposed body was found on Kleim Street in the New Industrial Area on Tuesday, 7 November.
It was lying in a hollow in a small open veld opposite the Forensic Pathology Service and the state mortuary.
The deceased, a Caucasian man, had blond or light brown hair and wore blue shorts. A grey jacket with a hoodie was lying on the ground next to him.
Unfortunately, due to the state of the body, it was impossible to find any other identifiable features.
After detectives asked the public for information to help them identify the deceased, they received an anonymous tip-off that the man had been murdered. According to the informant, the man got into a fight at a nearby workshop. He had allegedly been pushed during the altercation, and he fell and hit his head so hard that he lost consciousness for some time. He still seemed in bad shape while sitting under a tree shortly after this, the last time anyone had seen him alive. Sergeants Wynand Kruger and Malesela Kekana followed up on this information, tracked down and spoke to witnesses and arrested a suspect in connection with the murder on Friday.
The suspect, Siohban Du Preez (34), appeared in the Oberholzer Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Her case was postponed for a formal bail application.
Anyone who knows the deceased’s identity should contact Sgt Wynand Kruger at 065 968 9630. So far, he has only been identified as “Johan”.
Meanwhile, the police are still looking for information on another unidentified deceased man whose body was recently discovered next to the R559 from the P111 to Randfontein. The badly decomposed body was found in a ditch on the side of the road on 24 October. It was only discovered later that he had been shot at the top of his head. The deceased wore black Converse All-Star sneakers, grey socks and shorts, navy tights and a grey sweater. He had also been wearing a yellow woollen beanie at the time of his murder.
Anyone who knows the identity of this man should contact the investigating officer, Sgt Malesela Kekana, at 018 787 9300 or 076 137 7387.
