Carletonville murder: Much-loved Oberholzer resident shot and killed during daylight robbery

This senseless killing shocked the community.

Although many people think that violent attacks in Carletonville only occur at night, a horrible murder that took place in Oberholzer yesterday afternoon (March 12) showed otherwise.

According to the police in Carletonville the 67-year-old Mike Black was in his home in Hendrik Street at 14:58 when three robbers started to force open the dual swing electric front gate. Black presumably heard something and, not knowing the danger, unlocked his front door and burglar gate and walked out to investigate.

This caused him to run into one of the robbers, who shot him on the walkway toward the house.

Black died at the scene.

Although the robbers at first fled the scene, they returned a short while later and went into the house. Here they grabbed a plasma television set, a laptop, desktop computer and Wifi router as well as Black’s cellphone before fleeing again in a small car.

The Carletonville detectives are currently investigating a murder case.

Anyone who think that they might have information that can lead to the arrest of the criminals, must contact the Carletonville Detectives or the investigating officer, sergeant Malesela Kekana at 076 137 7387.
