Andile “Jali” Mbulawa, a 26-year-old event organiser and talent manager from Khutsong Township, is steadily becoming one of Merafong’s most promising young entertainment figures. His passion for events started in childhood, when he regularly attended local gatherings with friends. This early exposure sparked an interest in music, hosting and the overall entertainment industry.

Jali hosted his first event, a pool party, in 2019. Its success confirmed that there was strong support for local entertainment, especially when he collaborated with the duo Amapiano Chronicles. Together, they went on to organise several popular events, including Young Forever, 2 Man Show and Keep Merafong Alive.

In 2024, he took a bold step by registering his own company, Andy Entertainment. Through this brand, he launched the Annual Merafong Family Picnic Affair, which has grown into his biggest event yet. Over the years, he has managed to bring well-known artists to Merafong, including Senior Oat, Russell Zuma, Murumba Peach, Maglera Doe Boy, Jazzy Q, and many others. The upcoming 2nd Annual Merafong Family Picnic Affair, themed Shades of Yellow, will take place on 16 December at Plot 10 Phaks Lifestyle Lodge and features a strong lineup with Njelic, Emtee, Tumi and Thato Hatse.

Beyond events, Jali has also ventured into artist management. He has previously worked with Amapiano Chronicles, DJ Tido, Mami Deep and Naleletso, and is currently managing DJ Zodi from Potchefstroom. His time working with Everything Culture Agency in 2023 gave him valuable professional industry experience, helping him refine his skills in managing talent and running events.

Jali is also committed to giving back to the community. He has helped organise local soccer tournaments, five-a-side games and Easter soccer events with prize money and trophies to encourage youth participation. He says the entertainment industry can be challenging and often demands long hours, negotiations and high pressure — but seeing events succeed and creating job opportunities for locals makes it worthwhile.

He credits part of his growth to the support he receives from industry partners such as Mr Bareng Rasego of Amadeka Events, who has assisted him with essential equipment like sound, stage and lighting.

Jali encourages young people in Merafong to stay focused, keep knocking on doors and remain consistent in chasing their dreams. “This is a gift for me,” he says. “I did it for a long time without being paid, but now I can make a living from it.”
