Sewage leak floods street near preschool in Khutsong Ext 3

Residents of Khutsong Ext 3 faced serious health and safety risks after a large sewage leak flooded Dlamini Street near Trinity Preschool.

Residents of Khustong Ext 3 had to make their way around a large sewage leak this week.

Sewage was seen streaming from several manholes in Dlamini Street on January 14. The flow was so heavy that people walking through the area struggled to find a dry path to cross the road.

The worst of the mess was found right next to Trinity Preschool. A huge “dam” of sewage collected there, completely flooding both lanes of the road.

Motorists were forced to drive very slowly or even veer onto the sidewalk to get through.

Residents are deeply concerned about the situation, especially because a previous large sewage leak had caused a sinkhole at the school.

Beyond the risk of the ground collapsing, the smell and filth pose a serious health risk to learners, teachers, and neighbours.

The Merafong City Local Municipality’s marketing and communications manager, Temba Fezani, says the problem has since been attended to.
