Greenspark street left unusable after incomplete roadworks near primary school

Residents in Greenspark are frustrated as Patrys Street remains in a dangerous condition months after roadworks started.

A street in Greenspark is still in such a bad state that neither motorists nor pedestrians can use it if it rains.

Residents complained in January that a municipal contractor started work on Patrys Street and Hawk Street in November last year. The contractor, however, left the site before the work was completed.

Although Hawk Street had been repaired by the end of February, Patrys Street is still in terrible shape.

There is no tar left on the street, and water dams up and floods the street whenever it rains. It also floods some adjacent yards and houses.

The problems are made worse by the fact that this street is next to Greenspark Primary School and is used by learners as well as the drivers taking them to school. Although the street has been repaired on the other side of the school, Patrys Street is still the shortest route to the school for many parents and learners.

The Herald again took the issue to the Merafong City Municipality’s marketing and communications manager, Temba Fezani, on Monday. No feedback was received by printing time.
