Two dead in separate incidents at Carletonville Taxi Rank
Police are investigating both cases.
Two people died in separate incidents at the Carletonville Taxi Rank this week.
The latest incident took place on October 5.
The late Maxwell Mbongo Msithini (45) was visiting a barber shop inside the taxi rank at approximately 08:50. He was a taxi owner and member of our area’s largest taxi association, the Carletonville United Taxi Association (CUTA).
He was still at the barber when a group of unknown men stormed up on him. They shot him several times with 9mm pistols and an AK-47 assault rifle before running away. Unfortunately, Msithini passed away at the scene.
The case is being investigated by the police’s special taxi violence unit.
Another murder took place on September 28.
Taxi drivers were busy loading their vehicles at the Carletonville Taxi Rank at approximately 14:00. A fight started between two of the drivers over who should load passengers first.
One of them pulled out a knife and stabbed the other in the neck.
The injured driver was taken to Carletonville Hospital but was later transferred to Leratong Hospital, where he passed away due to his injuries on October 1.
Police say that this issue is not related to taxi violence, but rather an unrelated criminal act.
