Fochville WeRun celebrates its 100th event with record turnout

The weekly run, launched after the Covid-19 lockdown, continues to bring the community together every Saturday morning for fitness and fun at the Gert van Rensburg Stadium.

A large group of runners and walkers took part in the Fochville WeRun’s 100th event on November 8.

According to one of the organisers, Clive Wright, 87 active residents took part in the event. This is notably more than the usual 55 or 60 participants every Saturday.

“The weather was perfect. We had some sunshine with a light breeze, and it only started raining after we had finished our event and braai,” he says.

Those in attendance could take part in 5km and 2.5km runs or walks, while some also received T-shirts for regular participation. Runners or walkers who complete 25 WeRuns get yellow T-shirts, while those completing 50 get blue T-shirts, and those who complete 100 get red T-shirts.

The event takes place at the Gert van Rensburg Stadium in Fochville every Saturday at 07:00.

The WeRun was started in Fochville towards the end of the Covid-19 lockdown to give those who want to exercise in the fresh air the opportunity to do so. Since then, a group of enthusiastic runners and walkers has met at the Gert van Rensburg Stadium every Saturday.
