Police in Carletonville have launched a manhunt following a daring evening kidnapping and shooting in Khutsong Ext 5.

The incident occurred on February 5 at 19:50. The victim had just arrived home and parked his car when he told his wife he felt uncomfortable, believing he had been followed.

Moments after the wife stepped inside with groceries, a gunshot was heard. A gang of three men jumped the victim as he sat in his vehicle. Despite a struggle to escape, the attackers managed to overpower him.

During the scuffle, a shot was fired, hitting the man in the leg. The thugs then forced him into a silver-grey car and sped away from the scene.

The victim later managed to phone his wife to confirm he had been kidnapped and was suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police are investigating cases of attempted murder and kidnapping.

At the time of going to print, it remained unclear if the victim had been released or if ransom has been paid for his release.
