Taxi violence claims life of another CUTA marshal in shooting at Khutsong Ext 5 bridge

A 30-year-old taxi marshal affiliated with the Carletonville United Taxi Association has died after being shot multiple times near Khutsong Extension 5 on May 3.

After several months without a local taxi violence murder, yet another such killing took place this weekend.The brutal crime happened at approximately 10:20 on May 3.

Police were called to the scene at the Khutsong Extension 5 bridge. When they arrived, emergency medical service personnel were already busy treating the victim next to a blue Toyota Corolla.

This car had two bullet holes in the bonnet, and several empty 9mm and rifle cartridges were found at the scene.

The victim, who had been shot several times in his upper body, could not speak to the police and was immediately taken to Carletonville Hospital, where he unfortunately passed away at about 13:00 the same day.

He was later identified as Fundikuhle Zungu (30), a taxi marshal for the Carletonville United Taxi Association (CUTA).

The case is being investigated by the police’s special taxi violence unit.
