Cable thieves strike electrical substation near Carletonville

The guard had to be taken to hospital.

A group of armed cable thieves targeted a large Eskom substation in the Carletonville area this week.

A security guard (30) was on duty at Eskom’s Carmel substation next to the road to Deelkraal on October 21.

At around 21:30 he suddenly noticed an unknown man inside the substation. This thug pointed a shotgun at him while four of the criminal’s accomplices also made themselves visible.

They grabbed the guard and tied his hands. They then hit him with a firearm on his head, before proceeding to steal copper cable.

The guard managed to call for help after they left and was taken to Carletonville Hospital for medical help.
