Carletonville man robbed at gunpoint while taking shortcut home

A 26-year-old resident was assaulted, pepper-sprayed and threatened with a firearm by two robbers who stole his cellphone, cash and bank card near Ext 9.

A young man was robbed while taking a shortcut in Carletonville this week.

The resident (26) was walking with a friend from Carletonville Mall towards Ext 9 at about 18:00 on June 2.Two unknown men walked up to them, pulled out a firearm, and instructed them to stop. Luckily, one of them managed to run away.

The thugs sprayed the victim with pepper spray and assaulted him.

They then threatened him with the firearm and robbed him of his cellphone and money.

They also demanded his bank card and PIN, and threatened to shoot him if he did not comply.

After the robbers left him, the victim went to the Carletonville Police Station to report the incident.

By printing time, it was still unclear whether they had withdrawn any money from his bank account.
