Pothole nightmare in Carletonville’s Umgeni Street

There is also a massive pothole at the entrance to this street.

Carletonville motorists must be particularly careful when they drive in Umgeni Street.

There is a massive pothole in the left lane as one turns into Umgeni Street from Coronation Street.

“This is very dangerous as you just cannot drive there. You have to turn into the other lane, but what will happen if there is another car in that lane? It is just a matter of time before there is an accident,” a resident remarked.

There are more deep potholes just after the intersection with Umfolozi Street, while the tarred road surface in the area of house no. 25 is completely gone. There is also a large pothole at the intersection with Pafuri Street.

The Herald has heard from a confidential source that Umgeni Street was identified as a street that had to be fixed about a year ago and that tar was allegedly bought for this task, but that the work never continued.

Although the Herald asked the Merafong City Local Municipality’s marketing and communications manager, Temba Fezani, when the street would be fixed, no feedback was received by printing time.
