Illegal immigrant sentenced to 10 years for robbing ex-girlfriend in Khutsong

A Lesotho national convicted of housebreaking and aggravated robbery will be deported after serving his prison sentence.

An illegal immigrant who robbed his ex-girlfriend received a stiff sentence last week.

According to the investigating officer, Sergeant Jabulani Ngogeni, Retselisitsoe Moalusi (33) appeared in the Carletonville Regional Court in front of Magistrate Jan Steyn on June 10.

Moalusi, a Lesotho national who was in the country illegally, was found guilty on charges of housebreaking with the intent to rob and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Magistrate Steyn sentenced Moalusi to 10 years imprisonment for the house robbery and to another three months imprisonment for being in the country illegally.

He will be deported once he completes his sentence.

The sentence stems from an incident during which Moalusi broke into the informal house of his ex and her new boyfriend in Khutsong on April 26, 2025. An argument erupted after which Moalusi took their money and ran away.

He was arrested in July last year and has been in custody since his arrest.

Remofile Montsang was the prosecutor.
