A duo of house robbers attacked a resident of Khutsong Ext 6 next to Welverdiend on July 17.

A resident (38) and his wife (31) were asleep inside their home at about 00:30.

The resident was suddenly woken up by a loud noise, after which two men stormed into the house.

The thugs, who were masked and carried a rifle and a handgun, had gained entry after breaking open their security door.

The thugs spoke Sesotho and demanded money and tied the resident with shoelaces.

They then forced the wife to go with them to the back room, where they took money and cellphones from other residents.

The resident tried to run away, but the robbers saw him and shot him in the left thigh.

They grabbed more money and cellphones before running away.

The resident was taken to Carletonville Hospital for treatment.

The police in Carletonville are investigating house robbery and attempted murder cases.
