School search at Badirile Secondary uncovers knives and other dangerous items
A SAPS-led search and seizure operation at Badirile Secondary School in Khutsong uncovered knives, vapes and other prohibited items, prompting Gauteng Education MEC Lebogang Maile to warn that violent and disruptive learners are terrorising both educators and fellow pupils.
A school search at Badirile Secondary School today showed that all is still not well at the school.
Badirile, Khutsong’s oldest school, was visited as part of a SAPS-led School Search and Seizure Operation today. A delegation of officials led by the Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Lebogang Maile, also joined.
Gauteng Provincial Traffic Police, Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens, patrollers and other law enforcers also assisted.
They conducted a thorough search of the learners and confiscated several knives and other items that included vapes, a fork and scissors.
The discovery follows the death of a 16-year-old boy, who was a Grade Nine learner at the school, after he was stabbed in his chest by another learner in April this year.
Maile said the action was part of the department’s short-term plans to stop violence at schools.
“This is one of the schools that are very notorious. There are kids here who threaten teachers that they will call zama-zamas and other criminals to murder the educators. I have checked some of their books and there is nothing in them. They are not learners. They come to school to terrorise other learners and educators,” Maile said.
