Police are investigating an alleged rape after a 17-year-old girl reportedly accepted a lift home from an acquaintance following an evening at the Homes informal settlement.

A 17-year-old girl was raped near Carletonville after accepting a ride home from an acquaintance.

According to reports, the victim had visited a tavern in the Homes informal housing area next to the R500 with friends.

Following an argument during the evening, she decided to leave and asked around for transport.

A man she knew offered to drive her home, but they first stopped to relax at his place.

While continuing toward her home, the man stopped the vehicle, dragged her out, and allegedly raped her under a nearby bridge.

The girl subsequently reported the incident to the police.

The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is investigating the matter.
