Carletonville man kidnapped while walking home from work
24-year-old allegedly held for ransom after being grabbed by a group of unknown men in Carletonville Ext 9.
A young man from Carletonville had a harrowing experience when he was kidnapped on his way from work.
As far as could be determined, the victim (24) was walking home in Carletonville Ext 9 from his job at Carletonville Mall at about 18:51 on August 12.
A group of unknown Sotho-speaking men grabbed him.
His aunt (61) later received a frantic call from the young man. He told her what had happened and asked for help, saying that his kidnappers wanted money for his safe return.
The aunt told him that she did not have the money as she was not working.
One of the kidnappers then grabbed the phone and told her that, in that case, she had to go and get some money from a loan shark.
Detectives and members of Harmony Gold’s security services searched for the young man, and he was returned to his family late on August 14 after being assaulted by the kidnappers.
