An old building in Carletonville’s main street is being demolished to make way for the first new shopping mall built in the town’s CBD in decades.

Well-known resident Paulo de Gouveia of Jocapari confirmed that this company is tearing down the former technical college building, which was last used as a vehicle dealership, located at the corner of Annan Road and Kaolin Street.

Internal cabling and fixture stripping began on August 24, with exterior demolition work getting underway this week.

Crews expect to finish flattening the walls and removing the bricks by the end of September.

“We will start with new earthworks the moment that the old building is flat,” says De Gouveia.

The upcoming strip mall, occupying the current site alongside adjacent stands, is scheduled for completion by mid-2027.

A McDonald’s restaurant is slated to open at the new development in July 2027.

Altogether, the retail project will feature an anchor store alongside roughly seven other shops.

De Gouveia, who was born and raised in Carletonville, expressed confidence in the local area’s potential.
