Carletonville District Hospital (CDH) celebrated Arbor and Spring Day in a colourful and meaningful ceremony that placed a focus on community partnership.

According to Carletonville Hospital’s communication officer, Matabo Letsoalo, ten schools from across Merafong that helped the hospital with the steel bins project were honoured with trophies and certificates for their outstanding contribution, creativity and dedication to a cleaner environment during the event on September 21.

In his address, CEO of Carletonville District Hospital Josias Naidoo said the hospital needs this kind of relationship with local schools. He emphasised that working with young people builds a sense of ownership of public facilities and fosters a culture of Ubuntu and civic responsibility.

“This legacy will be witnessed by many as long as these bins remain installed,” he says. Ms Corne Pitzer, deputy principal of Hoërskool Wonderfontein, spoke on behalf of the schools and expressed gratitude for being part of the programme. She said schools are grateful to contribute meaningfully to the hospital and the community.

An environmental health practitioner spoke about the importance of keeping the environment clean, proper waste management, and how a clean environment contributes to good health and disease prevention.

The day was filled with tree planting, spring cheer and messages of environmental stewardship, cementing the bond between the hospital and the community it serves.

Hoërskool Wonderfontein, Carletonville High School, Carleton Jones High School, Westfields Primary School, Jongspan Primary School, Dagbreek Primary School, Laer Gedenkskool Danie Theron, Little and Loved Creche, Kinderkidz Kleuterskool and Aster Private Academy participated in the project.

“Carletonville District Hospital extends heartfelt thanks to all ten participating schools,” Letsoalo added.
